Finding Confidence as a Fashion Blogger

Let’s talk about finding confidence as a fashion blogger. As a new fashion blogger and a girl who just loves fashion in general, I spend a lot of time browsing Instagram and I have many favorite fashion/style bloggers who I admire – I love to see what everyone is wearing and where everyone is shopping. Lately, I can’t help but notice the large number of very curvy women with very tiny waists all over social media and popular blog sites with millions of people following, commenting and liking everything they seem to post. For the regular “girl next door” that’s aspiring to be a fashion/style blogger this can be rather intimidating to say the least.

I can recall over a year ago wanting to start a fashion blog, but had the idea in my mind that my body needed to look a certain way or that I needed to lose a certain amount of weight before I could dare call myself modeling in front of any camera, and posting those images all over for the world to see. But then I came across sites like Gabi Fresh, The Curvy Fashionista, Flaws of Couture, and Girl With Curves and realized that it’s not always about what size you are that makes you look fashionable and stylish. CONFIDENCE IS KEY! I now believe that no matter what the size every woman can look fashionable and stylish. The key is to not wear what everybody is wearing, but to wear what looks good on you and fits your body type.

As someone that’s 5’9″ weighing 190lbs I can totally understand that this is easier said than done at times. Shopping for someone at my height and size is far from easy – it takes a lot of trial and error with clothes and shoes. I’m not quite plus size, but at the same time depending on the fit I can barely fit a size 10 at bebe, for example. It’s very rare that I find jeans and pants that are long enough and they must be stretchy. And don’t get me started on how difficult it is to find shoes and boots in a size 10 or 11. It seems a lot of women wear a size 10 shoe now days – I just don’t understand why some stores only carry one pair most of the time. Over the years I’ve learned what looks good on me and what doesn’t. If I’m shopping online, I make sure I check the inseam on pants and jeans, and I double check the fabric on everything I purchase. I’m also not hung up on the size – I don’t mind sizing up or down if I need to. I think all of this is necessary if you want your clothes to fit you properly.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a women embracing my body but I’m also a big advocate for healthy living as well. If you want to live long and be healthy there’s just no substitute for a healthy diet and exercise. Anyone that knows me will tell you about my obsession with juicing. And even though I’m not as consistent as I want to be, I love the gym! I’m a true believer in weight training, but at the end of the day there’s just some things about your body type that you just can’t change and as women we must embrace our bodies!

Someone will always be prettier. Someone will always be smarter. Someone will always be younger. But they will never be you. -Kanye West

Regarding this look, I will admit I was bit self-conscious when wearing these form-fitting jeans. Even though the material is very stretchy and they are high-waist I didn’t feel they highlighted my problem area very well (MY MID SECTION). But once I paired them with this fringe top from Zara and layered with this blazer from Dorothy Perkins, I instantly felt more comfortable. The top even though somewhat fitted gave me the illusion I needed – a person’s eye would be drawn to the fringe on the top instead of my waist line. So if you have an area on your body that you are trying to hide, it can easily be done with the right garment.

Now let’s talk about these super cute jeans from Swank Blue. If you haven’t shopped this website before I highly recommend that you check it out. The site was created by Olori Swank, a celebrity stylist, and the clothes are very trendy, chic, and affordable. Be sure to follow her on Instagram for the latest arrivals and coupon codes.
