The Woes & Joys of Starting a Fashion Blog

Welcome to ParisHart.com! This is officially my first post, and I’m super excited to finally share my blog – a project I’ve been working on for the past few months and wanting to start for a very long time. With me being a new personal style blogger, after my first photo shoot I thought it would be a good idea to share my personal experience. This post is about the good, the bad, and the ugly when you’re trying to get started as a fashion blogger.

First, the bad and the ugly. So you like fashion and you look great in Instagram photos…why not start a fashion blog, right? Only if it was that simple. I’ve recently learned firsthand how much work and preparation is involved in trying to start a successful fashion blog. I will admit it’s not as easy as it looks, and the amount of work that is involved can be overwhelming and discouraging to say the least. I spent countless hours trying on clothes and deciding what I wanted to wear in my first shoot. The day of the shoot I spent hours gathering the clothes, shoes, and accessories, and doing hair and makeup. Not to mention all of the time spent preparing the website while juggling my day job, social life, and a work-out routine.

Another battle is trying to find a reliable and affordable photographer, because after all you want the images to be professional and amazing. If you’ve ever taken a selfie you understand how difficult at times it can be to get that one perfect shot – well imagine that times 100. Out of 200 shots, for example, there may be only 5-10 good images that you actually want to use. And while you’re trying to manage all that, you still have to pick the perfect blog name, brand yourself, make sure you’re web design is up to par, and most importantly you have to make sure your content is amazing! If your content isn’t useful and valuable chances are capturing readership will be difficult, which leads us to another problem – how will people even know that your blog exists? After my first shoot and launching the blog, I actually have a new appreciation for other bloggers who have been able to do this consistently and successfully for many years. And then not to mention the level of confidence a person has to have to be willing to expose themselves for the world to see and judge – the comments can be very brutal and harsh. Kudo’s to every blogger out there!

Now for the good…I have to admit after the prep work was done and the shoot was underway I had an amazing time. My vision was coming to life and the feeling of accomplishment was well worth the hours of preparation. Even though everything wasn’t as perfect as I wanted it to be and I still have a lot to learn, I felt I had made a huge step in achieving my goals and this is only the beginning. I can’t wait to see the evolution of ParisHart.com. Based on my journey so far my advice to anyone interested in becoming a fashion blogger would be to plan and stay true to yourself – don’t lose track of your purpose.
